Liz & Shane

There’s something truly special about capturing a couple in their hometown, where every corner and every step carries meaning. Meeting Liz and Shane for their first session together in Lancaster was exactly that—an intimate look into the life they’ve built and the places they hold dear.

We started in the heart of Lancaster City, where they live. The streets bustled with energy, but Liz and Shane had an ease about them, as though the city itself paused for them. We wandered through the city’s vibrant center, weaving through familiar sidewalks and quiet suburban streets. It wasn’t just about walking—it was about stepping into their world, seeing the places that form the backdrop to their story.

From the city, we made our way to Buchannan Park, a space that feels almost untouched by time. Here, we found a quiet spot under a weeping willow tree, its branches cascading around them like a natural sanctuary. As they sat together, the golden glow of the sunset painted the sky behind them. It was a moment that felt like time stood still—just Liz, Shane, and the beauty of their surroundings. There was no rush, just the two of them enjoying each other’s company, wrapped in the warmth of the evening light.

Our next stop was Franklin and Marshall College, where the air seemed to hum with nostalgia. There, in the heart of campus, was a spot rich with meaning—a place where, once upon a snowy evening, Liz and Shane shared a kiss that became a memory etched forever in their hearts. Standing in that same place again, it was as if the past and present intertwined, their love radiating in the stillness of the moment.

But life is full of unexpected joys, and as we left the campus, we had one of those small but unforgettable moments. A hilariously chubby dog waddled into view, and Liz’s reaction was absolutely priceless. Her face lit up with uncontainable joy, a burst of laughter that felt like pure sunshine. It was one of those spontaneous, unscripted moments that makes photography—and life—so beautifully unpredictable.

To end the day, we headed to Calabar’s, their favorite burger joint. The smell of sizzling burgers and the hum of conversation filled the air as we stood in line. Calabar’s isn’t just about the food for them—it’s a place that holds countless memories, from date nights to casual stops after long days. It’s these small, seemingly ordinary rituals that form the foundation of a life together, and being able to capture that was truly meaningful.

And just when I thought the day couldn’t be more perfect, Liz and Shane suggested one final stop. Across the street from Calabar’s, we found a small, inviting ice cream shop where they picked their favorite flavors and shared a quiet moment to end the session. Sitting on a bench with their cones in hand, they laughed, savored the sweetness, and soaked in the magic of the day.

This session wasn’t about posed perfection or curated moments—it was about truth. It was about documenting Liz and Shane as they are: natural, joyful, and deeply in love. It was about capturing the quiet beauty of their connection and the vibrant spirit of the life they’ve created in Lancaster.

To me, this is the essence of photography. It’s not just about pretty pictures; it’s about preserving memories, emotions, and moments that tell the story of who you are. For Liz and Shane, this session wasn’t just a collection of images—it was a celebration of their love and the beautiful, intentional life they’re building together.

And years from now, when they look back on these photos, I hope they’ll remember not just how they looked, but how they felt. How alive, how joyful, how completely themselves they were in these moments. Because that’s what matters most—preserving the truth of their story, in all its depth and beauty.
